SYLVIA GLADYS DANYLEKO

December 13 1934 - December 6, 2019

It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of Sylvia Gladys Danyleko, on December 6, 2019 in Winnipeg at the age of 84.

Sylvia was born in Oakburn, Manitoba on December 13, 1934.  She married Leonard in 1952 and was married for 32 years before his passing in 1984.  Sylvia operated cafeterias in the Paris Building, General Electric, and finally the cafeteria at St. Mary’s Academy before she retired.  While at St. Mary’s Academy, her extra donated time and efforts did not go unnoticed as she was honoured in 1993 with a plaque engraved with her name in their Alumni Hall; Row 13, Seat 14.

Her hobbies included ceramics and paper tole.  She proudly displayed her creations in her home and gifted her children and grandchildren with keepsakes.  There was a time when she was also known as one of the "Golden Girls", which included fun outings with the "girls" as well as many practical jokes that they played on each other.

She was actively involved in Silver Heights United Church where she loved to donate her infamous cabbage rolls and perogies for church events.  She also volunteered to make soup at the Deer Lodge Senior Centre, where she made many friends.  Her love of food, cooking it, sharing it and the many recipes exchanged over the years with family and friends is something all who knew her would know this to be very true.

One of Sylvia's most rewarding experiences was being a foster mom for 13 years to Lillian, who was a great friend and company for her as well.

She is survived by her children Barry (Cindy), Wayne (Lynn), and Tracy Antonation (Brian); grandchildren Jenny, Shauna, Pam, Adam, Chris, and Ryan; great-grandchildren Mateo, Isabella, and Chance; and her brother Jerry Sytnyk.  She was predeceased by her sister Shirley Mears.

The family would like to thank the Health Sciences Centre Dialysis Team of Doctor’s for the professionalism and encouragement shown to Mom.  The family would also like to thank the Maples Personal Care Home for their care and compassion, dedication and hard work during her difficult times and the extra support given to Tracy during her stays with Mom.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on December 21, 2019 in the Prairie Spirit United Church; 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg, officiated by the Reverend Don Johnson.  Interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada or the Kidney Foundation of Canada will be greatly appreciated.

You will be forever in our hearts Mom!
