Jack Fisher

FISHER, Jack - Obituary Photo.jpg

JOHN ALEXANDER (JACK) FISHER

August 3, 1934 – January 21, 2022

Jack passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, on January 21, 2021, at the age of 87.

Jack was born on August 3, 1934 at Shell River, Manitoba to Edith and Clemial Fisher. He was raised in Herb Lake, Manitoba by his aunt and uncle, Ruby and Bert Calcutt. Jack’s Uncle Bert taught him how to trap and together they worked a trap line with their dogsled team. Jack always said that he loved his time trapping with his uncle and he had many stories to tell about those days. He had a short career in the mine at Snow Lake until they discovered he was underage!

As an adult Jack began working in highway construction. He worked for different companies, before he began working for Royal Paving, which was later called Riverside Gravel. He worked for them for over 50 years. Through his work he made many friends that he kept in touch with after he retired. There are a lot of highway guys who know the name “Jack Fisher”.

Jack and Donna Leamont were married in 1979. Together they raised their family in Mission, BC, Kemnay, MB and Brandon, MB. In his free time Jack enjoyed hunting with his boys and later with his grandson. In 2005, Jack had to retire due to an injury. Thankfully that meant he was around more for his grandchildren to spend time with.

Jack is survived by his wife, Donna; sons, Sandy (Lori-Li), Garnet (Sharon) and Trevor (Marla); 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brothers, Earl and Albert, and sister Ellen.

The family would like to thank the staff in Palliative Care at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, for the kind and compassionate care they gave Jack in his final days. As per Jack’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation – Palliative Care.
