MAURICE (MOE) PATRICK KELLY

January 25, 1932 - June 13, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce that our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Moe Kelly has passed away at the age of 90 years.

Moe was predeceased by his parents Ed and Margaret, his son Kevin, and two siblings, Mary and Bernard, who were lost as infants. Moe is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Yvonne; by his 5 daughters and one son, Colleen Kelly, Erin Bereznay (Oliver), Lisa Ireland (John), Theresa Karlsson (Dan), Brian Kelly (Debbie Ma), and Carrie Kelly (Kevin Kennedy); by his grandchildren, Kurt Ireland, Adam Ireland, Shaun Ireland, Camilla Waitt (Morgan), Tia Bereznay (Aaron Jakab), Jordan Duff (Liane Hardern), Raiden, John, and Sarah; and by his great-grandchildren, Elise, Bryson, Miles, Wesley, Atticus, and Haddie. He is also survived by hundreds of cousins in the U.S. and Canada. As an only child, he felt very close to many of them, who were like his own brothers and sisters.

Maurice Kelly was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Jan 25th, 1932 to Edward and Margaret Kelly (née Pershick). His parents were in the GM dealer business in Humboldt Saskatchewan and moved to Charleswood when he was 4 years old. He attended Charleswood school and St Paul’s College. His first job was with Searle Grain Company and then he worked for Firestone Tire. In 1953, he obtained a position with Air Canada (then known as TCA) as a Flight Clerk on an RCAF defence contract. He then worked on the TCA ramp at the Winnipeg Airport as a station attendant. In 1957, he was promoted to flight crew scheduler and later became the Crew Scheduler manager at the Winnipeg base. He retired in 1985 and enjoyed many happy and fruitful years of retirement travelling and enjoying the cottage in Lac du Bonnet.

Moe was a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus Charleswood council #7523. He was past president of the Charleswood Historical Society, and a Board Member of DASCH, Inc. (Direct Action in Support of Community Housing). Moe provided pastoral care at Grace Hospital, was a Communion minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (OLPH), and served as a council member of OLPH.  He volunteered for over 20 years with Meals on Wheels until he was 85 years old. We always teased him that he would be delivering Meals on Wheels until he needed them himself!

Moe was a man of great faith and attended daily Mass whenever possible. He was proud of his Irish heritage and he loved his family dearly.

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday June 20th, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd, Winnipeg. There will be a viewing prior to the service at the church and a luncheon will follow in the parish hall.

Those who wish may donate to Rossbrook House, Knights of Columbus, or DASCH Foundation.

He’s Gone
You can shed tears that he is gone,

or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back,
or you can do what he would want:

smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Moe's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.
