EVA “RUTH” CHAMPION

(née MARTIN)

September 3, 1931 – January 8, 2025

Ruth Champion, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at Pembina Place Personal Care Home on January 8, 2024, at the age of 93. 


Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 2005; and her siblings, Don, Jack, Keith, Bill, Dorothy, and Alma. 


She is survived by her son, Russell (Lisa); granddaughters, Kurstyn and Erin; great-granddaughter, Henley; and sisters, Lorna, Mavis, Sharon, and Rita.


Born in Portage La Prairie, Ruth was one of eleven children. 


She met her future husband, Harold, while he was with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at the old Tuxedo detachment. After Harold re-enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, they married on Prince Edward Island in 1950, where they resided for the next 40 years. 


Ruth worked in retail in downtown Summerside for 30 years, forming many lifelong friendships. 


After Harold's passing in 2005, Ruth returned to Winnipeg to be closer to family.


In accordance with Ruth's wishes, no service will be held. Contributions may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in her memory.


Ruth’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
