RUTH ROSAMOND DAUN

(née CHRISTIAN)

October 13, 1930 - October 15, 2024

It is with deep sorrow and profound love we mourn the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Ruth Rosamond Daun on October 15, 2024 at Riverview Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Left to mourn are her daughters, Lynn (Bob) Kurylko, Diane (Jim) Crowe; her grandchildren, Michael (Steph), Stephen (Carla), and Geoffrey (Desiree); and great grandchildren, Maya, Logan, Tucker, Miguel, Emily, Nova, and Madelyn. Ruth was predeceased by her father and mother, Walter and Dorothy Christian; her sister, Mildred Sells; and her brother, Eric Christian.

Born in Winnipeg on October 13, 1930, Winnipeg remained her home for her entire life. Growing up in St. James, then settling into Fort Garry where she raised her family.

As a young woman, Ruth joined the CNR, where she met and married Jim Daun in 1953 (divorced 1972). She finished her working life after 23 years at Victoria General Hospital. Throughout her long life, through work or her interests, it was easy for her to make many life-long friends, many of whom she maintained close relationships with until her passing.

A passion of Ruth’s was the game of golf. A long-time member of Southwood Golf & Country Club for 40 years, she took pleasure in not only the game, but the wonderful friendships she formed throughout her membership. Over the years, Ruth enjoyed many interests that included curling, cross country skiing, music concerts, playing bridge, reading, and travel.

A fiercely independent woman, with a generous soul, she understood the importance of community, volunteering at the Christmas Cheer Board, Victoria General Hospital, helping with breakfast programs for children, and for many years an active member of St Paul’s Anglican Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to your favourite charity.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Riverview Healthcare Centre for their genuine kindness and exceptional level of care extended to our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

It is with much sadness

with a short and sincere friendship when I met Ruth as we moved into Dakota House on November 1. 2023. We were at first like two lost souls, but It did not take us long to become good friends, as we shared in a lot of 'getting to know our 'way around in Dakota House, enjoying and partaking in activites, and found that we were even going to live on the same floor, and enjoyed our dinners when we were able to find two seats to have dinner together with two friendly residents. We went for walks, i accompanied her to the maill when she wanted company, and watched many

a football game at my place. I shared with her many stories as an immigrant to Canada.

Ruth, I am so glad to have met you in your short time at Dakota House and to be ablt to call you 'my friend'. I will miss you, dearly, My sincere condolences to your famiies. Rest in Peace.
