GILLES CLAUDE JOSEPH DESROCHERS

December 8, 1959 – April 8, 2025

Gilles Desrochers, age 65, beloved husband to Diana, and loving father to Jesse, Nicole, and Luke passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours on April 8th, 2025, after a short and unexpected battle with cancer. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His love for his family, his faith, and his joyful spirit will live on in the many cherished memories we have of him.

Gilles was born on December 8, 1959 into a large family of 9 children of which he was the youngest. The family lived in Belmont, Manitoba and later moved to St-Pierre-Jolys where he spent his years growing up. Gilles met and fell in love with his wife Diana in 1986, they were married on April 17th, 1988. Together, they raised their three children.

Gilles was a dedicated husband and father, always making time for those he loved and creating lasting memories with all who knew him. He had a love for the outdoors, enjoying hunting trips with his sons at his Uncle Albert's farm, long walks on the trails of Manitoba, trips to the beach with his family, camping with friends and enjoying the occasional nap against a tree. He and Diana enjoyed several vacations together, the favorite being to the Dominican Republic. He retired from his career at Canada post in 2020, picking up the game of pickleball and enjoying Tuesday night cribbage games with his fellow postie buddies. He continued his love for refurbishing gun stocks and tinkering in his man cave.

Gilles was a man of great faith and a dedicated follower of Jesus. An example and foundation he laid down for his children to follow. He leaves to mourn his wife Diana; and children, Jesse (Ayla), Nicole, and Luke (Sabrina); as well as his sisters, Henriette Ballinger (Eric), Angele Desrochers-Emond (Bryan) Irene Maynard (Robert) Solange Usher (Glenn); brother in law Harvey Gamache; sister in laws, Robertine Desrochers and Beverley Desrochers; as well as nieces and nephews and many others.

He is predeceased by his parents, Regina and Henri Desrochers; and step father Rene Desrochers. As well as his sisters, Marie Gamache and Florence Bouchard (Claude); and brothers, Lucien and Armand Desrochers (Laurette); brother in law Ron Friesen; nephews, Rodney Desrochers, Michael Beaudry, and Richard Gamache; and nieces, Rita Bouchard and Helene Bouchard.

A celebration of Gilles' life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Grace Communion Church, located at 50 Barnes Street in Winnipeg.

Gilles’ family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

We are so heavy hearted since we heard of Gilles passing, he was truly one of the nicest guys! I remember being on a job site where he and Ike Suderman were painting (Chalmers CC) and had so many good laughs with Gilles spontanious comments, he was fun to be around. He will be missed, but we shall see him in the not too distant future. Diana, you and your family are in our prayers, may God give you comfort and peace at this difficult time. Much love to you all.

We worked with Gilles for many years (combined) at the post office. It was always so much fun when he was around and there was never a shortage of laughs.

We are saddned to hear of his passing not only because he was so young, but because he was such a wonder human being.

Sending strength to family and friends and all who knew Gilles. We will honour him on our next hike, which is where we'd often run into him when we still lived in Manitoba.

Diana, I was so surprised and sorry to hear of Gilles illness and now just heartbroken for yo.u. My mind is flooded with memories from when we were all young single friends and your wedding and us going our separate ways. Yours and a few others wedding pictures continue to hang in our hallway. Ryan and I have so enjoyed the few times we've spent together with you and Gilles over the years. Ryan remembers Gilles as gregarious, bubbly and of course his smile! They shared a great sense of humor!

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers as we mourn with you. Sending you our love, hugs and deepest sympathies.

From when we first learned of the shocking news of Gilles' illness and now to his passing we have been so incredibly sad. Sad for you Diana and your whole family and what Gilles had to go through, sad we will not see him again (in this life). All so not fair!!
So glad we got to visit this summer, as we sat outside sipping wine I remember Gilles trying to catch/kill the wasps that were buzzing around. He was proud of his ability to get some of those buggers and it was funny watching him do it. Gilles was such a solid person, such a good man, sweet, with a sense of humor and jovial side to him. The photo biography shows the beautiful life you had together and the memories you will hold close forever. I have some photos as well that I need to dig up.
A short life well lived. Gone way too soon, RIP Gilles, you will not be forgotten ❤️❤️.
Ike's memories: Before Gilles was married Gilles and I worked together for a period of time. Working and staying out of town together. We got along well and never had any real issues. A good person, easy to get along with. Never a slouch at work. As singles we spent many weekends at the beach, Gilles & Diana, myself with Silvia. I remember a lot of chicken fights in the water, Sil and Diana on our shoulders.
Gilles was always supportive, I appreciated that! I was honored to be one of his groomsmen when he and Diana married.
We just visited this last summer and now he is gone, unreal. We will meet again. Gilles, you were good person!
