Shirley Dunn
SHIRLEY MAUREEN DUNN
(née ABEY)
January 17, 1931 - August 16, 2022
Sadly, the sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews announce the passing of Shirley Maureen Dunn (nee Abey) born January 17, 1931.
She was the first born of six children. Shirley lived in the Chater community at her grandmother Abey's house, until they bought the farm known today as the other place. She was joined by her sister Alice, and they walked or used the stone boat with Dad driving to Chater School.
In 1944 they moved to the orange brick house, by now she had two sisters. Shirley was like a mother figure to all of us. She went to St Michael's Academy in Brandon as there were no high schools in the rural areas.
She took her nurses training at the Brandon General Hospital and graduated in the class of 53B. She nursed in every province from Quebec West, ending her career in Peterborough, ON retiring in 1995.
Travel was so important to her. She also enjoyed shopping and could always find the bargains on designer fashion. Her love of cooking was very much appreciated with her many great meals.
She moved to Calgary and lived there for more than 20 years. In 2021 she moved back to Winnipeg wanting to be surrounded by family. She was in Oakview nursing home sharing a room with her sister Alice, where fond memories where shared.
She was predeceased by her parents Ewart and Jean Abey. Left to mourn her are sisters, Alice, Arlene, and Judy (Bob); brothers, Geroge (Bev), and Bryan, and her many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will take place Friday August 26, 2022, at 11:30 at Chater cemetery. Officiated by Rev Laura Hargrove of the First Presbyterian Church of Brandon. Luncheon to follow at Shady Lane Tea Room.
Dearest Shirley RIP.
