BRYCE FEDIRCHUK

It is with profound sadness that we announce the recent passing of Bryce Fedirchuk. Bryce was born in Winnipeg in May 2002, and always lived in the Riverview neighbourhood where he was known and loved by many families.

Bryce is survived by his parents, Pat and Brent; sisters, Sidney and Grace; girlfriend, Olivia Wiebe; grandparents, Allan and Yvette Fedirchuk and Theresa Longtin; aunts and uncles, Karen and Ken Wiggett, Paul Longtin, Alan Longtin; cousins, Robert, Kristen, Clayton (Sierra and Maisyn) and Kate (Adrian); and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his Pepere, Paul Longtin Sr. and recently by his Auntie Carole Kurdydyk.

Bryce was a beloved and cherished son/ grandson/ brother/ nephew/ cousin/ partner/ friend. He was supportive, kind, and loving to all the people in his life, whether they were family or friends. Bryce was always a social person and his sense of humour and infectious (sometimes mischievous) smile meant he made friends easily. Bryce spent many hours on the rinks at Riverview Community Club which he considered a second home. He played hockey from Timbits until he was 18 and made many friends as a Riverview Ranger, Fort Garry Flyer, and as a member of the Twins hockey family.  He loved spending time with “The Boys” at practices and games.

Bryce also loved spending time in nature whether that was alone or with Olivia, family, or friends. Bryce was always up for family card tournaments at GMa and GPa’s place at Moose Lake, fishing with friends along the banks of the river, or spending time at the family cottage at Ena Lake. He also loved our family Labradors, which were a tremendously important part of his life. Bryce developed a true appreciation for food and became an excellent cook. He enjoyed treating us to his “Bryce Specials” where he showed an impressive creative streak (no recipes needed).

Bryce had difficulty dealing with some of the challenges he was facing and tragically passed away from what we believe to be an accidental overdose. All who loved him are deeply impacted by losing him far too soon. We miss him terribly, but we are also immensely grateful to have had Bryce in our lives. We appreciate all the support that so many have provided and for everyone thinking of Bryce and our family at this time.

All who wish to join us are encouraged to attend the memorial service on Friday, October 4th at 11:00 am at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford Street, or via livestream by clicking here

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Riverview Community Centre, the Winnipeg Humane Society, or Shared Health - Mental Health and Addictions Services

A photo-biography is forthcoming, please check back soon.

A young life was cut way too short! What a tragedy! Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. Cherish his beautiful memories.

"No way Coach. New year, new me." With that mischievous smile stretched ear to ear, and not even a second to pause, that was Bryce's reply to Coach Jeff when asked if he planned to spend as much time in the penalty box as he had the previous season. I laughed so hard that day and I've shared that story countless times since. He knew just as well as the rest of us did, there would be no less penalty minutes that season, but we were all going to have a great time watching.

My son Colin and Bryce formed a lasting friendship at school, united through their love of hockey. As they grew into young men, they stayed close. I always smiled when I heard his name brought up over the years. To know Bryce was to know a truly special soul.

We have lost a bright star, but his wild spirit will live free in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
