DAGMAR "DASHA" MARIA GNALL

June 15, 1945 - November 9, 2023

With heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the passing of Dagmar Maria Gnall. She passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on November 9, 2023.

She is survived by her husband John, her daughter Dagmar Snell (Jeff) and grandchildren Julia and Jake, Claudia Nichols (Brad) and grandchildren Jordon and Jack, Johnny Gnall (Maren) and grandchildren Eric and Jamie. Sister Mirka Brisson (Doug) and son Frank. She is also survived by many family and friends in Slovakia.

She was born in Bratislava, Slovakia and immigrated to Canada in 1968 with her husband John and daughter Dagmar junior. They then settled in Winnipeg and welcomed another daughter, Claudia and son, Johnny.

Throughout their years Dagmar and John built two successful businesses and worked hard for their family. She adored her children with all of her heart and would do anything for their happiness. She had many passions which included caring for her children and grandchildren, entertaining friends and family, fashion, shopping and travelling. Her talent for Slovak culinary cuisine was legendary! She could bring everyone together with incredible food, a warm smile and kind hearted nature.

She was blessed with six grandchildren Julia, Jordon, Jack, Eric, Jake and Jamie. She was known as their Babi. She loved her babies and gave them countless hugs and kisses. Babi never missed a beat being part of their lives and dedicated every ounce of herself to them. She was the most amazing and loving grandmother!

Dagmar (known as Dasha to her friends) and John loved to entertain their family and many friends who also made the journey from Slovakia. Dasha would expertly cook and prepare everything just right. Joking, we would often say "Babi, you've made enough food to feed an army"! There were many fun days entertaining by the pool with lots of smiles and laughter to be had. Dasha loved spending time with the ladies of her Ya Ya club, laughing, enjoying life and a good cappuccino.

Dagmar had a heart of gold and if you knew her you would feel her unconditional love. She had a caring spirit and was always there to listen and try to help out in any way possible.

The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Lions and River Park Gardens for the special care they showed her.

Dagmar’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

A Celebration of Dagmar's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 603 Wellington Crescent.

Napriek tomu, že naše spomienky sú krátke, sú neustále v našich mysliach, aj ostanú. Je nám veľmi ľúto odchodu Dáši. Bude navždy v našich srdciach.

My other mom when I was growing up in Southdale.  When Dagmar & I had sleepovers she was always making us delicious lunches & dinners. I was always welcomed into their beautiful home.  I will cherish the memories of enjoying our time in Cuba together as well, you always made us all feel so welcome.

I’m filled only with happy memories of Teta Dasha. I don’t think there was a moment in my childhood where she didn’t make me laugh. Playing in your neighborhood as a kid on those hot summer days were the best. Our times together were filled with cheer and that is what I will remember the most. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. You were a part of our extended Slovak family here in Winnipeg, and we will miss you. Our deepest condolences to Dagmar, Claudia, John and your extended families. May joyous memories remain in your hearts forever.  Sandra, Doug, Sam and Ivy.❤❤

My Dear friend❤ We met 60 years ago and with our boyfriends, later husbands Ján and John we shared many special times in Slovakia and then we escaped the Communist regime and came to Winnipeg with our 2 year old daughters Yvette and Dagmar. Later you welcomed Claudia and John and your family was complete. Our families spent a lot of time together, celebrating Christmases and birthdays, later weddings of our grown children, joy of our grandchildren.   Good times with many close friends, our immigrant family were shared during decades. The years went by way too fast and we grew older.  Now is time to say rest in peace Dáška🙏🏻😇🙏🏻 my friend and “sister”. Memories will last forever! Thank you for your friendship, for good times, laughter, cooking, sharing food, swimming in your pool, going for ice cream, lunches and much more!  My deepest condolences to Dagmar,Jeff,Julia,Jake, Claudia,Brad,Jordon,Jack,John,Maren,Eric,Jamie. I love you all very much!  Giselle “Gizka”
