DAVID CLAUDE HURTEAU

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Claude Hurteau at 74 years of age, who departed this life at his home after a valiant battle with cancer in the early hours of July 23,2023. Surrounded by his loving wife, Penny and their two devoted daughters Kimberley & Carrie.  

David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Penny Hurteau, and their two daughters, Kimberley (Darren) and Carrie (Clint), his loving sister, Patricia (Claude), his father, William and predeceased by his mother, Nina.  He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

David led a remarkable life that touched the hearts of many. Throughout his life, he exemplified courage, integrity, and commitment. For an incredible 35 years, he served with unwavering loyalty in the Ontario Provincial Police, dedicating himself to protecting and serving the communities he served.

David's journey with the OPP began as a Constable in Toronto, but his passion for service led him to Northern Ontario, where he made a significant impact in various areas, including Thunder Bay, Shabaqua, Armstrong, Geraldton, and Marathon. In 1988, he moved to Pembroke and assumed the esteemed position of Detachment Commander. Throughout his distinguished career, David's leadership and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.

In 2005, after decades of selfless service, David retired from the OPP, leaving behind a lasting legacy and countless memories of his dedication to duty and unwavering commitment to the people he served. Beyond his professional achievements, he touched the lives of many personally, always offering a helping hand, a listening ear, and a warm smile to those around him.

For 16 years David and his wife Penny enjoyed retirement and making a home in Pharr, Texas.  Making wonderful new friends who have become family.   They also traveled abroad on many cruise ships and kept active by always dancing, which was their passion.

David was the anchor of his family's life, and he took immense pride in his role as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and uncle. His daughters, Kimberley and Carrie, were his pride and joy, and he found immense happiness in witnessing their successes and guiding them through life's challenges.

As a grandfather to Codey (Kristin), Caitlyn (Brandon), Devon (Crystal), and Jaiden and a

a great-grandfather to Sofi, Ryeden, and Bastien, David cherished every moment he spent with them. His unconditional love and support have left an indelible mark on their lives, and they will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

David's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In this time of sorrow, may we find comfort in the cherished memories we shared with David and the legacy of love he leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held in honor of David's life which will be held in Winnipeg in the upcoming months.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Canadian Cancer Society or the Manitoba Palliative Program in David's name.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to David for his selfless years of service with the Ontario Provincial Police, protecting and safeguarding the communities he served. 

Fly High, dear David, knowing that you have made a profound impact on this world, and may you find eternal peace in the heavens above. Your spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
