TREVOR HUTCHINS

Peacefully, in the early morning hours of Friday, May 5th, 2023, Trevor Hutchins passed away and entered the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, finally released from the disease that robbed him of so many years.

Trevor is survived by his sister-in-law Margaret and nephews, Michael, Peter, and Roger. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Jasper and Roger, and many relatives in England.

Trevor was born, September 26th, 1953 in Norwich England. After his school years he earned a degree to become a government administrator. But his life went in a different direction when, as a young man, he dedicated his life to Christ and began his journey to be in full time Christian ministry. Trevor attended Capenwray Torchbearer Bible School in Northern England and shortly after came to Canada and earned his Bachelor of Theology at Canadian Mennonite University. He began his ministry as a student pastor at Home Street Church. He continued his education in religious studies and eventually earned his masters degree in theology at Providence Theological Seminary.

Trevor helped to plant Good News Church and pastored there for eight years. Following his time at Good News Church he held the position of Care Pastor at Riverwood Church Community for almost ten years before his health declined.

Trevor had a passion to serve and ministered to others out of a joyful heart. He was loyal and so committed to the ministries that meant so much to him; Alpha, Adopt-a-Block, Prayer, Frontline, and Care Ministries at Riverwood. He was always so happy to care for those that needed support and encouragement. He had a wonderful warmth and sense of humour and anyone that knew Trevor could see that the joy of the Lord was his strength. He was so sincere and genuine in his faith and lived it out every day. He formed many valued relationships and will be dearly missed by his closest friends.

Trevor loved music, especially the old hymns.  He had such a heart for worship and enjoyed playing piano. He followed British sports and really enjoyed cheering on his favourite teams in Britain and Canada. Trevor was also passionate about bird watching and spent many hours with friends enjoying this pastime.

Pastor Trevor leaves a legacy of love and care and we join Heaven’s chorus in saying, well done good and faithful servant.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Pastor Trevor on Thursday, May 25th, 11:00 AM at Riverwood Church, Factory Location, 257 Riverton Ave.

So sorry to hear of his passing. He was one of my customers years ago and so welcomed me and  spouse to join him for Christmas 🎄 celebration. We graciously accepted.  He was such a warm and giving individual. So saddened to hear of his passing. Godspeed Trevor. You work on earth is done.

Thanks for the kind comments. Trev was my Uncle and we kept in regular contact until his illness prevented him from communicating via email. Had to laugh at the comment about his beautiful singing voice, which is in sharp contrast to his brother (my dad), who loved to sing at high volume, but I can think of many other words to describe Dad's singing, beautiful isn't one of them... Thankyou all for being his friend. Roger.

i awoke the morning after his passing at 530 am god had placed this in my head to write down  When I think of pastor trev or as I think of him... "my favorite british pastor”  so many fond memories flood into me. Listening to him and my wife discuss the latest antics of Mr. Gordon Ramsey and his rather colorful language.    Making his powepoint presentations for his sermons Going over to his apartment to fix his VCR    Or my wife and I going out for supper with him on many occasions to Peekins Perhaps my fondest memory is also my first memory of pastor trev.   This memory is one if the reasons I am here at Riverwood and paved the way for me to becoming a christian and giving my life to Jesus. It was my first time ever walking through the doors here at 257 Riverton.  heidi had come here the week before to see what it was like and to make sure it was "safe".   You see as an introvert I was nervous of new things and new people and this whole “CHURCH THING” was new and scary to me. Coming through the doors I was gretted by this funny little british guy who shook my hand and said “OH HELLO WELCOME TO RIVERWOOD” “IM PASTOR TREVOR”  he must have known I was new here and needed some attention.  we chatted and I told him my name then he invited us to take our seats for the service Heidi and I made our way to the front row. After the worship and the coffee break up came pastor trev to give the service it was awesome his voice was so inviting and his message intriguing.    After the service we left bidding my new brittish friend goodbye and vowing to return next Sunday at 9:15. The next Sunday came and I eagerly walked through the doors and was immediately greeted by ,”OH HELLO TIM AND HEIDI… WELCOME BACK HOW ARE YOU TODAY”  wow pastor trev remembered me!    We chatted again and eventually took what would become our seats at our new church home eagerly awaiting worship and our new friend pastor trev to deliver another sermon. Worship then announcements and coffee over up came the speaker  “hey not trev” I said to heidi must be a guest speaker today oh well   On the stage was a balding guy in jeans and button up shirt introduced himself “Hi im pastor todd lead pastor here at reverwood..” Wow Ever since that moment that a little british guy welcomed me here and remembered my name the following week we were friends and I had a home church   Thank you Pastor Trev you are and forever will be “MY FAVORITE BRITISH PASTOR”.

I used to work at Irene Baron Eden Centre. Trevor came to be a resident there at that time. He was an eager participant in all the recreation/social outings, effortlessly bringing joy, laughter as well as words of encouragement to residents and staff. He had a beautiful voice for singing and was an active member in the choir. I recall him signing Jolly Old St Nicholas, with gusto, in a men’s trio.  He was a person who brought sunshine to a room! Be at peace now Trevor, free from the disease that robbed you. Jesus loves you, this I know. ❤️

I met Trevor years ago while volunteering for Hear The Music.  Though we lost touch over the years, I think of him fondly every time we eat Indian food. One night at the old Walker Theatre we put together an ‘International Dinner’ for the team before the concert.  I tried many dishes that evening that I’d never eaten before, but Trevor’s Chicken Korma was my favourite and still my go-to order. He was warm and welcoming with a playful sense of humour and I know he will be missed.
