MAURICE (MOE) PATRICK KELLY

January 25, 1932 - June 13, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce that our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Moe Kelly has passed away at the age of 90 years.

Moe was predeceased by his parents Ed and Margaret, his son Kevin, and two siblings, Mary and Bernard, who were lost as infants. Moe is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Yvonne; by his 5 daughters and one son, Colleen Kelly, Erin Bereznay (Oliver), Lisa Ireland (John), Theresa Karlsson (Dan), Brian Kelly (Debbie Ma), and Carrie Kelly (Kevin Kennedy); by his grandchildren, Kurt Ireland, Adam Ireland, Shaun Ireland, Camilla Waitt (Morgan), Tia Bereznay (Aaron Jakab), Jordan Duff (Liane Hardern), Raiden, John, and Sarah; and by his great-grandchildren, Elise, Bryson, Miles, Wesley, Atticus, and Haddie. He is also survived by hundreds of cousins in the U.S. and Canada. As an only child, he felt very close to many of them, who were like his own brothers and sisters.

Maurice Kelly was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Jan 25th, 1932 to Edward and Margaret Kelly (née Pershick). His parents were in the GM dealer business in Humboldt Saskatchewan and moved to Charleswood when he was 4 years old. He attended Charleswood school and St Paul’s College. His first job was with Searle Grain Company and then he worked for Firestone Tire. In 1953, he obtained a position with Air Canada (then known as TCA) as a Flight Clerk on an RCAF defence contract. He then worked on the TCA ramp at the Winnipeg Airport as a station attendant. In 1957, he was promoted to flight crew scheduler and later became the Crew Scheduler manager at the Winnipeg base. He retired in 1985 and enjoyed many happy and fruitful years of retirement travelling and enjoying the cottage in Lac du Bonnet.

Moe was a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus Charleswood council #7523. He was past president of the Charleswood Historical Society, and a Board Member of DASCH, Inc. (Direct Action in Support of Community Housing). Moe provided pastoral care at Grace Hospital, was a Communion minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (OLPH), and served as a council member of OLPH.  He volunteered for over 20 years with Meals on Wheels until he was 85 years old. We always teased him that he would be delivering Meals on Wheels until he needed them himself!

Moe was a man of great faith and attended daily Mass whenever possible. He was proud of his Irish heritage and he loved his family dearly.

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday June 20th, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd, Winnipeg. There will be a viewing prior to the service at the church and a luncheon will follow in the parish hall.

Those who wish may donate to Rossbrook House, Knights of Columbus, or DASCH Foundation.

He’s Gone
You can shed tears that he is gone,

or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back,
or you can do what he would want:

smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Moe's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

I just found out that moe had passed away & felt very sad! He was such a fine, caring man & had a wonderful sense of humour. In times of stress in crew scheduling & in-flight, his calm disposition & handling always smoothed things out. He always handled things graciously & with expertise. A very special air canada person.

My Deepest Sympathies to all, So many fond memories of the years our 2 families spent together. My father up until his passing (cannot believe he is gone 32 years) had always considered Moe to be his best friend. He was one of the kindest most loving Gentlemen I have ever met and he will surely be deeply missed by all. God Bless............Brent Rougeau, and all the remaining Rougeau's

We are all so sorry for your loss …. So thankful that many years ago the Kelly family moved into the house across from us. Mr Kelly always had the best version of ‘Michelle  My Belle’ to sing whenever I came over and over the years … will always remember seeing your dad sitting in the front porch on Sinnott street with his grand -babies … we would see him sneak out with one in his arms on family dinner nights , just him and the little one having there own special and likely quite moments together ❤ You will be missed Mr Kelly With love Michelle and family

Our heartfelt condolences to Yvonne, your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Moe was a dear friend of our father, Brad Bradshaw, with whom he worked at TCA/Air Canada. Moe continued to keep in touch with Dad over the years. When telephone conversations became difficult for Dad, Moe called us to get an update on his old friend. We knew Moe as a kind and gentle man. May your treasured memories of the many happy times spent with Moe bring comfort to you in your times of sorrow. May you feel God’s love surround you.

I first met Moe Kelly at Winnipeg Airport when I was a passenger agent with Air Canada, & Moe as you know was in Crew Scheduling.  Not only did we share conversations at the airport, we also did the same at church (OLPH).  During my conversations with Moe over the years, one characteristic of Moe's always came through, he was a gentleman's gentleman.  I am sure Moe that you are now enjoying being in the good Lord's embrace.

Many hugs and my deepest condolences to Yvonne and family.  Moe was a volunteer Dispatcher and deliverer for Meals  on Wheels of Winnipeg when I worked there.  I recall many good times and laughs shared with Moe. His sharp wit and keen sense of humour made him special.  Loved ya Moe!!

Our very deepest condolences to the Kelly Family. We are friends from Dobals Rd N.on the Lee River. We have wonderful memories of Moe & Yvonne.  Here is a short version of one of Moe’s stories which he shared over a dinner table. Moe had bought a new pair of slacks which he wore to a dance. He noticed that one legs was shorter than the other. Then Moe got up to show us how he danced all night with a bend of one leg which he thought made him cool. We think of him often and tell his story with actions. We always missed Moe and Yvonne at our Bocce Tournaments. Rest In Peace Moe. You deserve it after all the giving you have done ❤Jo-Anne & Richard

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Kelly Family. Moe was the Crew Scheduling Manager at the Air Canada Winnipeg Base for many years, prior to centralizing. I remember Moe's glass enclosed office at the corner of the flight planning center at the airport, where he kept a close eye on all happenings of the flight operations. He always had his ready smile, and despite dealing with all the shenanigans that both flight attendants and pilots tried to pull on crew schedulers, he was always courteous and fair. Winnipeg was a small base, where everyone knew everyone, and considered to be family. Moe was a big part of our family. Sincerely, Kim Sharpe Flight Operations Winnipeg
