RICHARD “RICK” JOHN KLASSEN

December 14, 1957 – November 28, 2024

On November 28, 2024 Richard John Klassen passed away peacefully with the love of his family and friends surrounding him.

Richard will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by his loving wife Pamela; special son Brenden; sister Anne Marie (Lloyd); sister-in-law Kim (Doug); nephew Matthew; as well as many special friends and family.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, William & Eva; and his brother Paul.

Rick's love of fishing started at an early age when his dad bought him his first fishing rod at the age of 5. That tradition carried on throughout the years with his son Brenden. Rick taught Brenden at an early age what he had learnt from his dad and they enjoyed many days together fishing and bonding. They truly were best friends.

Rick's passion for baking led him to work the majority of his life as a baker which he took great pride in.

Rick's happy place was in our backyard cutting the grass, trimming trees and especially sitting next to a roaring fire with his family.

Richard lived life on his own terms and wasn't afraid to express that to anyone. Gruff and tough on the outside, on the inside he was very sensitive and loved with all his heart. Rick's lifelong friends can attest to that. Bob & Sandra, Willis & Helene, Elviera (his twin from another mother) stayed friends from youth until the end. Rick always said he had the Best Friends. Sincere Gratitude to everyone who sent messages, cards & care packages. The outpour of support shows how special Richard was to so many.

The family would like to thank the great team and Cancer Care and Palliative Care for their compassion and caring.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Royal Canadian Legion #215 215 Maxwell King Drive East St. Paul (off Henderson Hwy).

Rick’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I met Rick as a young shy 15yr old girl starting her very first job at a bakery. I remember being so scared to approach at first but that quickly changed once I got to know him and his sense of humor, He would raz me but I would catch a little smirk and was always reassurred it was all in good fun. We also had a neat connection in that my Dad was a baker as well and had trained Rick at one point. The most favourite thing I will always remember is all the work bbq's at Pam and Rick's around the fire. There was one in particular that sticks out because we had just got a new boss and this was our first out of work function. The boss said to me in front of Rick something extremely inappropriate. I found out later that Rick stood up for me and addressed the situation with him. There have been many times in my life where people that should have defended me, didn't so this is something that will forever stay with me and a true reflection of Rick's character. My heart and thoughts are with Pam and Brenden. He was special and I am so sorry.

I have known Rick since I was a day old and we spent a week together in the old Concordia Hospital with our Mother's :). In a week or so it will be the first Birthday that we will not be able to pick up the phone and wish each other a Happy Birthday in this traditional way. But I will never spend a Birthday where he will not be with me in my heart and thoughts.

Rick is a huge part of my life from childhood days when we would get together as families to our teens into middle age. We saw a whole lot of each other and we were a part of a great group of friends. Now living apart for many years our visits and phone calls were more sporadic.

Rick, I will miss you. I'm so glad we were able to reminisce these past few months about all the crazy good times we had back in the day. You always made these conversations so easy and enjoyable even though you were going through really hard times.

Our hearts go out to you Pam and Brenden and Annemarie. Thank you so much Pam for keeping us up to date on what was happening and arranging phone times and visits. ❤️❤️

Rick was lots of fun and we have many funny memories from our school years, camping with our circle of friends and house parties. We were guaranteed to be laughing when Rick was around. We will miss him very much.

I have find memories of Rick and our quick chats whenever I phoned to talk to Pamela and she wasn't home. He always had some opinion or thought to share. And it always ended with a laugh.

So sorry for your loss, Pammy and Brenden. He will be watching over you both.
