CAROL JOY LAPOINTE
(née Mitchell)
April 7, 1964 - February 13, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Carol’s passing on Thursday, February 13th 2025. In God’s presence, after a short and courageous battle with cancer, she passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Violet Mitchell. She is survived by her husband Robert and their two sons, Marc (Shania Murdock) and Gene (Kassandra Friesen). She will be deeply missed by her brothers, Bryan Mitchell (Peggy) and Owen Mitchell (Gayle), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carol was born at the Royal Canadian Air Force Base in Zweibrücken, Germany. Two years later, she moved with her family back to Winnipeg. Carol grew up in Crestview, the same neighbourhood in which she later established deep roots. She understood at a young age her desire to help others, and pursued a career in the medical field. After graduating from John Taylor Collegiate, she studied nursing at the University of Winnipeg. She worked as a receptionist at the Mall Medical Clinic; however, the vast majority of her career was spent as a Ward Clerk at the Grace Hospital.
She thoroughly enjoyed cooking, gardening, and crafting. More than anything, her greatest joy was raising her two boys. Carol was a devoted Mother and Wife to her family. She often referred to Crestview United as her “Church Family”. Among her many activities at church, her favourite was the coordination of Christmas hampers with the Outreach Committee. Beyond the church, Carol demonstrated her faith daily through her love and compassion for others.
Carol and her family wish to thank Dr. J. Raubenheimer, Dr. M. Zaki, and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory can be made to Crestview United Church, 1JustCity, CancerCare Manitoba, or Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
A celebration of Carol’s life, officiated by Rev. Cathy Maxwell, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Crestview United Church, 316 Hamilton Avenue, Winnipeg.
Carol’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I have known Carol for 37 years, since initially meeting her at the Grace Hospital, where she worked as a ward clerk, and I as a nurse, in one of my first nursing positions. She was a valued member of our team, with her exceptional organizational and communication skills. It was her compassion for patients that really drew me to her. Carol believed strongly in making the world a better place….she was genuine, and always engaged in interactions with the intent to leave that person with the sense that they were heard.
Carol had a wonderful sense of humor. She could look at any situation and find something to laugh about, and would always look for the “silver lining“, something that many of us find difficult to do. She has always been gracious… and remained so in the face of many obstacles, especially in her final days. My husband, Dave, and I will miss her dearly. Hugs to Bob, Gene, and Marc… Looking forward to celebrating Carol and the impact she had on us all on the 22nd.

CarolJoy is my second cousin, we are 2 years apart in age. CarolJoy parents (my godparents) raised the most amazing women, honest, sincere soul. Always thinking of others before herself. We may only have chatted on the phone a few times a year but how I enjoyed our chats, texts and visits with never ending conversations. So gentle and calming.

To Robert (Bob) and Family, We have only known Carol for such a short time. From the very moment we met, we knew that she was a special lady. With a smile, soft kind words, and a caring personality how could we not fall in love with her. Sharing a couple of meals and a few stories at Ruth Benn's was an opportunity we will be ever so greatful. It was an honor to have met Carol. As we are certain all folks that met Carol were blessed. Too soon she has left us. God looked upon the earth and called Carol Home to suffer no longer. Carol will be missed by all who knew her. May God bless you with grace and strength.. She will be remembered and treasured in each person's memories. Greive each in your own way; but, remember others are willing to support you - you are never alone.
. With our condolences at this difficult time. .

At our last visit with Carol on February 11th at Riverview, we were fortunate enough to spend quality time with her & share our fondest memories over the years as our friendship grew. The love of Carol‘s life was her three men Robert.Marc and Gene . She was an outstanding cook who thoroughly enjoyed cooking for them. I always considered her to be “Master Chef “, Carol .
Clear Lake was Carol‘s most favourite spot in the summer. Many of us were invited out to visit and stay with them. It was a special time .In fact, Bob and Carol enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.
Our families celebrated, many birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas parties at their home and at our farm. The most recent was the birthday/retirement party that Bob and Carol hosted along with their boys at their home church,Crestview United. We felt honoured to be asked .What a wonderful celebration! The dinner was exceptional. Carol found great joy and pleasure in helping, caring, extending love to everyone, she seemed to know when she was needed. She was always concerned about the needy, the young and the old folk. She especially loved children. My granddaughters were reciprocates of her love .She would invite them to “messy church” at Crestview which they really enjoyed .
Carol was blessed with many talents. Her skills for organizing we’re absolutely “amazing “. The recent party was a prime example . Also, the Christmas food hampers that the church prepared & delivered were organized by Carol.’s capable hands.Congratulations dear friend on a job ,”Well done”. You served your Master well.
We offer our deepest condolences to her husband Robert, son Marc & Shania, and son Gene & Kassandra . Your treasured presence will be deeply missed by us all.

So glad that we were able to see Carol last Sunday. She was my aunt but we are so close in age that we were more like sisters growing up.

I am so sorry to hear of this. I knew Robert through the Riding Mountain Conference of Churchmen, a non-denominational church camp that we helped organize each June. Through Robert, we met Carol, and enjoyed their fellowship and company. We grieve with you. Take care. You are loved.

Carol and I have been very close and dear friends since we met at The University of Winnipeg. Even after my husband and I moved to Alberta we always kept in contact with one another. Some of my favourite memories of Carol are our recent trips together; going with her and Bob to Riding Mountain, Banff and Jasper. Perhaps my most favourite memory of Carol is when she and I would FaceTime and talk for hours together while working on our sewing projects. We love you my friend and we will miss you dearly. Our deepest condolences go out to Bob, Marc and Shania, Gene and Kassandra and family. Love Liana, Kerry and family

Always up for a double date or a walk around a local craft sale, perhaps even a visit to a cold and rainy agricultural museum, Carol was our cherished friend. We will miss her. We extend sincere condolences to Bob, Marc, Gene and your whole family.

I only knew Carol for a very short time but the moment I met her I knew we were kindred spirits. One of the first things she said to me was "I feel like I already know you."
I look forward to trying out all the recipes she sent me and will forever cherish our time together as well as all our chats.
