COLIN CLEMENTS LLOYD

July 2, 1945 - August 7, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Colin Clements Lloyd of Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 7, 2022 at age 77. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile.

Colin was born to Thomas and Margaret Lloyd in Winnipeg’s West End on July 2, 1945. He was the first of three generations to attend Clifton School. Colin went on to complete his education at General Wolfe School and TecVoc High School where he was a proud member of the football team. As a youngster, he had a passion for watching the races at the Brooklands Speedway which he carried on into adulthood watching the cars race the high bank dirt oval at Victory Lane Speedway (formerly the Red River Coop Speedway). It was Colin’s dream to one day attend a NASCAR race in Charlotte, North Carolina. Not only did he get a chance to see a NASCAR race but he even had a chance to ride along in one of the cars. Colin lived to serve his community. He was an equipment manager for the Winnipeg AAA Hockey Association and loved being part of the local Clifton Community Centre supporting the youth.

He spoke fondly of his time as a reservist with The Royal Winnipeg Rifles at Minto Armoury in his twenties. Colin met and married the love of his life, Beverley, in 1967. He and Bev purchased his childhood home on Clifton Street shortly thereafter and over the following years he watched with deep pride as his family grew. In 2009 he and Bev moved permanently to their little piece of paradise in Grand Beach, Manitoba.

Colin began his career with the Winnipeg Hydro in 1965. He was a dedicated and hardworking lineman. He loved to share stories about his time with The Hydro but most of all he loved to share the knowledge he gained on the job. Quick with a joke, Colin could make the room erupt with equal parts laughter and groans. After his retirement from Winnipeg Hydro, Colin spent his time relaxing in his big recliner, tinkering in his shack, exploring the Manitoba snowmobile trails and letting his family know how much they are loved at every opportunity.

Colin made friends everywhere he went. If you were one of the lucky ones to call him a friend, you know how quick he was to lend a helping hand, a tool or some good advice.

Colin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Beverley; his children: Tom and Jim (Paige) and his grandchildren: Shelina (Anthony), Sarissa and Jenaya as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Chawna (Kerry).

To my husband, I look at you and I am home. I see nothing worse than to be without you, because with you, my soul feels complete. You are the other half of me and I love you. You are my home no matter where that is. I love you forever and always.

Love, your wife.

At the family’s request, no service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff of the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Colin’s name to CancerCare Manitoba.

Colin's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

What a blessing it was to have Colin as my friend.  We spent countless hours over many work shifts sharing stories and laughter. Over the years our friendship extended past the confines of the Trouble office, with Bev becoming my friend as well.  Always quick with a corny jest, William and I had aptly dubbed him King of the Dad jokes. Memories of visiting his home, his cottage, and his trip to my home here in California, will be forever cherished. To you, Bev, Colin's soulmate, I send my deepest of condolences with love from myself, William, and Dion.

Our hearts and prayers go out to you Bev and your family.  To say that Colin was 'one of the good guys' is an understatement.  He was a huge help to us when we put an addition on our cottage - he did all the electrical.  He was a great neighbor and friend.  Colin will be missed by all of us.  Please take care of yourself and we are only up the street from you if you need us.  Doug and Donna Harding and Family❤

Our deepest sympathies goes out to you Bev, Tom, Jim, Paige and grandchildren. We were so saddened to hear of Colin’s passing and he will be truly missed by so many. We are so grateful that we had a lovely visit with Colin just before his passing.  Because we share the same aunt and uncle he was a cousin to us. A gentle, caring and loving man who thought of others before himself. Always there for whatever you needed if he could help. We will miss his infectious smile and of course all his stories and the never ending stream of jokes. When we walk by their cottage daily we still wave even though sadly he is not in his chair. We will miss him pressing the car horn and beeping at us as we walked by.  Fourth Avenue won’t quite be the same! Bev, we are waiting for you to return when you can. Your beach family will be there to support you.       With love and sympathy. Lois and Bill 💞

Colin was my first cousin, and my cousin brother. After losing his sister, father, then mother before being 20 years old, he became part of my family, as my dad was his mom's brother. I will miss seeing him across the street at Grand Beach where we had cottages for decades. That wave through window from his chair as I walked by.  A can of pop while sitting  next to him in the cottage and enjoying his humor and his concerns. Always a smile, a lending hand a subtle sense of humor which caught me many times. And a family man, dedicated to Bev, his children and his grandchildren.  That's what life is about. And I will miss him dearly. Barb and I send our condolences to Bev and the family "Uncle Colin" will be fondly remembered by our 2 sons Conan and Bren here in Cold Lake. His natural ability to use words to  entertain was remarkable.   Code Clements and wife Barb Gelowitz, Cold Lake Alberta

Our deepest condolences Bev, Tom, Jim & Paige, and grandchildren. I can’t even remember how long we have known you & Colin, as Wayne & he worked at Winnipeg Hydro and had a common passion for the Roundie Round Races which Colin remind me that they had gone to the races together for 40 years,  We always enjoyed Colin’s phone calls, his sense of humour brightened our day. We will also miss him very much, but knowing his pain is now gone and he is with Chana is a blessing. Much Love & comforting hugs… Wayne & Dianne ❤

I am saddened to see that Colin has passed away. I remember him from high school days at Tec Voc, where we were team mates on the Hornets Football Team. I recall how he and Bev were the talk of the school as they would walk the halls together. I am so happy that they shared a wonderful, love filled life withtheir beautiful family. Colin, I am proud to say I knew you, played football with you., and I am a better person for knowing you.  -- Allan Besson

Bev, Our deepest condolences  to you and your family, we are so sorry for your loss.  Collin was such a special man who had an infectious smile and laugh that was truly genuine, he had a passion for life and was honestly one of the nicest human beings I have ever met.  I loved listening to him tell stories (he truly was a great storyteller), he often had an audience in the waiting room at the clinic.  We will miss your smiling face and infectious laugh and visits at the beach Buddy.  RIP Colin, I know you and Chawna are watching over us , heaven has gained another Angel❤ Kim, Kevin and Karli Saunders

He so loved his family-Bev, children and grandchildren. He loved to share stories about how well they were doing. He would drive the streets of Grand checking up on and looking after friends and neighbours. Giving a wave as he drove by. He is missed!

Colin was a man I just knew as “dad” because that was the kind of guy he was, it was probably years before I even realized what his name was. Even know we haven’t seen each other in years, this family will always be near and dear to my heart. Condolences to the family and a big hug to Bev aka “mom”!
