EILEEN CATHERINE MCNALLY
(née JOHNSON)
December 1937 – March 2025
It is with sadness our dear Mother passed away peacefully. Left to remember are her loving sons, Darren (Penny) England, Raymond (Leanne, Grandsons Michael + Sean) BC.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Annie Johnson, and brother Frank and sister Doreen. Born in Winnipeg at St Boniface Hospital, Eileen grew up in Transcona and from an early age summered in the Whiteshell at Winnitoba (Florence Lake) where she loved and enjoyed nature with her parents at their cottage. Later on after completing high school, she went to work for Eatons company as a sales clerk and then married Vern McNally from Reddit Ontario, and then moved to Calgary Alberta where they raised a family together.
In addition, Mom was a dab-hand at gardening and yard work, painting and decorating etcetera, never shying away from what needed doing about the place which she eagerly showed how to do and this instilled in us a sense of duty and self worth because chipping in and helping with all forms of DIY was important life skills to develop and have.
She also loved making art, listening to music and to explore other cultures and faiths in life which instilled in us a sense of wonder and fairness for the diversity living on the Earth. With her sister Doreen and brother in-law Donald and their family, used to love having incredible dinners parties together especially during the festive times of the year and because of their gardening interest; they both pickled and canned vegetables in the autumn and made jams and jellies, and chokecherry was everyone's favourite.
After moving to Edmonton in the early 1970s, she raised her boys full time but later once they were old enough, utilized her prior retail background and was gainfully employed by Woodwards department store at the Southgate mall as manager in the Hardware department and in the Garden Centre during the summer months.
Mom was also a gourmet cook of many cuisines, and loved watching Graham Kerr the Galloping Gourmet on TV and her baking was a mainstay of the family diet...and we all knew when dinner was ready when the smoke alarm went off. She also trained under Susan Toy in Chinese cookery because of our love of the cuisine and to experience it more at home.
I don't think a day will go by without us thinking about her in some way and the good times we had together. She will certainly be missed and although we feel saddened now by her passing, we can also feel great love, joy and admiration for the love she gave to everyone.
Thanks to home-care Mrs Margaret and Edward and the excellent care given at The Convalescent Care Home and at River East Personal Care Home.
Many thanks to good friends who helped make Mom's days more pleasant: Ken, Myrna, Alanna & Megan, Kim, Tammy, & Matthew, Ken & Marilyn (who graciously went above and beyond) and to all friends and family who came across her life's journey. She will live on forever in our memories.
A mother holds her child's hand
for such a short time,
but holds them in her heart forever,
God Bless.
There will be no service by her request.
Thank you, Peace and Love to all.

Sorry again Darren and Raymond about your loss. You wrote a wonderful tribute. Your Mom was a great sister and friend of my mother, Doreen. They talked almost every day, and laughed endlessly over just about anything. Your Mom always treated me with kindness. Rest in Peace, Eileen.
