GARRY L. OPPERMAN

October 17, 1952 - February 23, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Garry Opperman with his family by his side at the Health Science Centre on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the age of 72 years.

Garry will lovingly be remembered by his wife Lynne (Linda) of 50 years; his children, Rhennata and Michelle (Chris) Street; and grandsons, Turner and Landon. He is also survived by brother Ron (Janice); sisters, Ruby (Fred) Morris, Sandra (Dennis) Youngblut, Heather (Lorne) Fuchs, Pat (David) Duncan; sister-in-law Constance (Miguel); and many nieces and nephews.

Garry was predeceased by his parents, George and Olive; sisters, Marilyn and Beverley; and brothers, Phillip and Blaine.

Garry was born in Boissevain, Manitoba and grew up in the community. He moved to Winnipeg in his late teens working in Construction, then ran a business for thirty-five years while working as a Butcher retiring from Loblaws.

Garry and Lynne loved to travel, across Western Canada, South to Texas, Minneapolis, Yuma, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Mexico especially Puerto Vallarta, Cuba, Hawaii, Disneyworld, and his favourite: Las Vegas. They would visit family and friends and make new friendships along the way.

Garry’s warmth, kindness, generosity and humour touched the lives of all who knew him.

Garry loved his football, being a Wpg Blue Bomber season ticket holder for many years. He also loved to watch his Wpg Jets Hockey team in action. He was engaged in many activities over the years including playing football, tennis, cycling, gardening, dancing, and walking his beloved dogs each day.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Wpg Paramedics, HSC Emergency Staff, Neurology Unit, Medicine Unit, and to Dr. Lama for all their professional and compassionate care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Rockwood Ana Vets, 341 Wilton St. Wpg. Dress casual.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba, the Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of your choice in Garry’s name.

Garry’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
