ELOISE OWENS (WESIE)

(Wesie)

September 19, 1957 – April 6, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Eloise (Wesie) at St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit on April 6, 2025, at the age of 67. Surrounded by her loving daughter, Callie; and son-in-law, Jerrit. Wesie peacefully left us after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wesie is deeply mourned by her daughter, Callie (Jerrit); her cherished grandchildren, Kieran, Hayden, and Maddie; her siblings, Barb (Amerigo) and Darryl (Jeanie); and her nephews, Carmen, Wayne, Dan, Jason, and Dean. She is also remembered fondly by numerous other family members, friends, and those whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Roy and Adelaide Owens.

A lifelong resident of Winnipeg, Wesie’s heart was forever tied to the city she called home. She had a passion for travel, often seeking out the warmth of the beach, with Mexico being a particular favorite.

She had a profound love for animals, especially her horses and German Shepherds. Over the years, she formed lasting bonds with her beloved animals, with her last horse, Stryker, holding a particularly special place in her heart. Together, they shared countless trail rides and adventures, creating memories that brought her immense joy, especially during the most challenging times.

Wesie will also be missed by her dear companions, her cat Frosty and her dog Flett, who both are grieving her loss deeply.

Her warmth, kindness, strength, independence and love for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Wesie’s memory will be cherished forever, and she will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to call her a friend.

Her Journey’s Just Begun

Don’t think of her as gone away,

Her journey’s just begun.

Life holds so many facets,

This earth is only one.

Just think of her as resting

From the sorrows and the tears,

In a place of warmth and comfort

Where there are no days or years.

Think how she must be wishing

That we could know today

How nothing but our sadness,

Can really pass away.

And think of her as living

In the hearts of those she touched,

For nothing loved is ever lost

And she was loved so much.

Weezie was an exceptional person, her passion ran deep and her rare ability to always be the strongest person in the room was evident and sometimes overwhelming. She had to learn how to be independent, strong, but still loving. Although, she never had it easy! She took life's challenges and overcame them with a vengeance! She made me proud to ever know anyone with that kind of strength. She loved her daughter, Callie so much! She will be missed! Proud to have called you a friend!

I was very sad to hear of Wesie's passing, but also felt a sense of relief for her as her battle with cancer has ended. I only met Wesie in the last two years through our work together at the school division. I could always rely on her to "tell it like it is" and also to go above and beyond when needed. She will be missed by many. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
