GAETAN MARCEL PERTH

“GAGE”

October 26, 1950 – October 13, 2024

Born October 26, 1950 in Dupuy, Quebec, Gaetan passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg with family by his side on October 13, 2024, just shy of his 74th birthday.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rita Frangetti and Honore Perth; sisters, Carole (John) Johansen and Paulette Bujold. He is survived by Marie Perth; daughter Leanne (Jeremy); grandchildren, Lexington and Mackenzie; son Andrew (Kristen); grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Madison, and Blake; sisters, Dianne and Joanne (Pat) Ames; brothers, Carl (Laurie) Thibodeau and Richard Thibodeau; brother-in-law Douglas McLaughlin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.

Gage (as he was known throughout his life) moved to California in the mid 1970’s to pursue his Divers Certificate. Once attained, he moved to Scotland where he worked as a deep-sea diver for the next four years, where he met Marie. They moved back to Canada in 1980, settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba and started a family. Once back in Canada he pursued several business ventures, various coffee shops, dry cleaning, perogy truck, pizza restaurant, and the Robins Donuts franchises he owned for over 25 years and ran alongside Marie, Leanne, and Andrew.

Gage was an outgoing, generous person who loved music, travel, cooking, a good party, and a good bottle of gin or scotch. He had an open door welcoming all who came to visit. He always had good stories to tell, a lot of them related to his days as a deep-sea diver or about time spent with his buddies from Dryden or family fishing and hunting.

He was much loved and will be forever missed.

A Celebration of his Life will take place later, to be announced.

A special thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital Emergency Department and ICU for the wonderful care they took of Gage – we are forever grateful.

A shoutout to those friends who took time to visit Gage in the hospital, he greatly appreciated the company! Dale, Peter, Roger, Jimmy, Mitch, Sharon, Cheryl, Gladys, Phyllis, Linda, Mark, Corrine, and Lindsay - thank you.

Gage’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I met Gage when he and my brothers Garry and Raymond Cornelius hung around together. One Saturday morning Ray and Gage came to my parents place after a night of celebration ahem.

Raymond asked me to make them breakfast and so I did. I was in a pepper stage where I loved pepper on everything, still do. Needless to say the eggs were covered in pepper, not a lot of white showing. My brother was used to this so he just went after his breakfast. Gage did too but there was a bit of coughing while doing so. He never complained and just thanked me for making them breakfast. I might have been 16 at that time. In later years when we got together through FB we would chuckle about it.

He was indeed a lovely and kind man. I will miss him dearly.

Went to school with Gage, homeroom for one or two years. He was a jovial guy, always smiling, mischief always on his mind. Later would run into him at his Robins stores, Later when we moved back to Wpg we would talk on the phone as we both had mobility issues. He knew where the good food is in Wpg, one tip was Vern's pizza on McPhillips. Wanted to go visit him at his apartment, was invited to drop in, then he got sick, sad news. He lived a full life that's for sure. I do know he had an opinion, that is always admirable. RIP Gage a good guy.

So sorry to hear this. Although we were in Dryden High School at the same time, I didn't get to know him then. A few years ago, I acquired my late-in-life passion, scuba diving. We became FaceBook friends and he gave me advice and suggestions and shared amazing stories of his commercial diving career.

I always planned to meet him for coffee when in Winnipeg, but never managed to do it.

So sorry for your loss, he will be missed by many ❤️🙏🏻 My favourite memory was his sense of humour, especially when he tricked me into believing he had a big shark bite scar! Rest easy now Gage
