Haller Peter
PETER HALLER
March 6, 1939 – September 30, 2019
With heavy hearts, we announce that Peter passed away on September 30, 2019 in Riverview Health Center at the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Elfriede and his son Martin.
Peter was born in Stuttgart, Germany to Elise and Simon Haller as one of three Children. He loved all outdoor activities especially soccer. He met Elfriede and they were married in 1959. Together they loved to travel and explore new places.
In 1960 Martin was born and life looked good. However, after two years he was forced to look somewhere else for their future as no one would rent them a place to live, being a young family with child. Peter decided to follow his sister Anneliese to Winnipeg where they had lots of jobs and opportunities to start a new life. On June 8, 1962 Peter and his family arrived in Winnipeg to a temperature of 42 Celsius; Welcome to Canada. Peter was a technical machinist and soon had a job as well as a place to call home. Over the years he found Winnipeg was the place to be, he developed a passion for the outdoors; fishing, camping (Elfriede hated it) curling and his beloved card game Skat.
Traveling across Canada, U.S.A. (and Alaska) gave him a lot of memories to talk about which he often did, with his German accent he never lost, to the amusement of all his friends. Peter also worked a variety of different jobs; a machinist, working for the German Newspaper, owning his own renovation business and finally running a curling club before his retirement. Now he had time to help his friends, go mushroom picking and to work in his garden. Peter achieved all that he wanted and dreamed of, he left us in peace with the knowledge that all was taken care of and his family was ok.
