CONRAD DAVID POCHINKO

It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Conrad Pochinko at the age of 48. He was predeceased by his father David Pochinko and grandparents Anne & Stan Black and Betty & Peter Pochinko. Conrad is survived by his children Hope & Cole Pochinko; mother Chris Pochinko; sister Danah (Mike) Bellehumeur; uncles Rick (Lise) Black, Fred and Calvin Pochinko; cousins Shauna, Kerri and Krista (Elie) Black; and many other family, friends and business associates. 

Conrad grew up in the North End of Winnipeg and met many friends during his time at Luxton School and St. John’s High School. He enjoyed cruising around in his white 1967 Chevelle with his friends, many of which he stayed in touch with over the years because he was a such a special person and lifetime friend.

Conrad entered the sprinkler fire protection industry at a young age, following in his father’s footsteps. Together they owned and operated CDP Enterprises.  Over the years, Conrad honed his skills and obtained his red seal sprinkler fitter license in 2002, passing the challenge exam on the first try. He was an expert in his field and many customers contacted him for advice and assistance, and said they really enjoyed working with him. After they sold the company to Viking Fire Protection, Conrad went on to work for Shandron Mechanical for the last 12 years.

At 6’3”, Conrad had a big presence and while he could be very intimidating if you didn’t know him, all his friends and family knew he was a big teddy bear with a gentle soul. He was quiet, respectful and thoughtful, often choosing kindness over conflict. He was also extremely generous, always willing to lend a helping hand and supporting those in need. He especially loved finding bargains and would buy multiples of things on sale if he thought you needed one too. Conrad embraced the aging process and his grey hair which got him senior discounts.

Of all his accomplishments, Conrad was most proud of his two children who grew up to be kind, good people that cared about others. Hope graduated from high school with Honours with Distinction and is currently going to the University of Manitoba, pursuing an education in healthcare. Hope was destined to be a care-giver, always looking after her dad and taking him to doctor’s appointments. Cole graduated from high school with a natural talent for mathematics (just like his dad) and got a job working at Melet Plastics with his Uncle Mike. In his spare time, he helped Conrad work on cars, assisted on job sites and at the shop, looked after their family property, and cooked meals. Together, the three of them looked after each other very well so Conrad can rest in peace knowing that his kids have the life skills they need to succeed in life.

Conrad loved his family very much. After his father passed, he called or texted his mom every day since to make sure she was okay. He helped her take care of the cabin and fixed things when they broke. He was a founding member of GEC (Good Enough Construction) with Mike, which was the nickname for all DIY projects completed by the family. Conrad was also very proud of his sister Danah and all that she accomplished in her career and life with his brother-in-law Mike. He appreciated their generosity and all the help they provided to the family over the years.

Conrad loved spending his summer weekends at the cabin and hanging out with friends and family. He was in charge of roasting the pig at the Camp David Pig Roasts and especially loved roasting Mike. Conrad had a terrific sense of humour and never missed an opportunity to tell a joke or poke fun at his friends and family. More recently, Conrad had been spending more time at Danah & Mike’s house playing boardgames and cards with the family. Mike was his best friend so he enjoyed watching movies and sports with him, picking their Sunday NFL Proline tickets, listening to music, playing pool, or golfing online which became a daily ritual for them, including the day he passed when he achieved his best score. Conrad’s presence at the cabin, family dinners and game nights will be missed immensely. His family still can’t imagine a life without him.

In the end, Conrad’s heart was so big that it finally gave out.

In accordance with Conrad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that you donate to a heart, cancer, or kidney charity of your choice.
