It is with great sorrow and loss we announce the passing of Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Brother-in-law, Uncle, Cousin, and Papa, Albert Howard Ratt on July 17, 2024 with his family by his side at the age of 68.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Deanna Ratt; his sons Zecharias Schick, Jeremy Schick (Tiffany), Matthew Ratt, Bradley Shorting, and Kyle Eisner (Jani-Lynn); numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren; his mother Reta Prince; his siblings, Barbara Bair (Melvin), Robert Slater, Leona Ratt, Eugene Ratt (Kim), Dennis (Francine) Prince, Denice (Sam) Churchill, Linda Girard, Agnes (David) McPherson, Kevin (Andrea) Prince, Christopher Prince; in-laws, Melvin Anderson, Shelley Prince, and William Anderson Sr; Uncle Dennis Daniels; Aunty Alice Hudson; numerous cousins; with special friends from Winnipeg Police Service, Patrick (Janet) Romano, Rick (Joan) Joyal and Bruce (Shelly) Glover; and Union Gospel Mission support counsellor Rod Buxton.
He is predeceased by his Grandparents, Cecil & Florence Daniels; Fathers, Howard Campbell Ratt and George Prince Sr; Brother George Prince Jr; Sisters, Joanne Spence, Janice Prince, and Marilyn Anderson; Aunties, Betty (Tommy) McCorrister, Olive (Carl) Asham, and Linda Daniels; and Brother-in-law Clifford Girard.
Albert battled many addictions in his life, experiencing homelessness, and facing many health challenges including (skin cancer, diabetes, kidney failure, and a stroke).
His life work was always to acknowledge the fact that we all have the power to “change for the better”, he himself victorious in overcoming his addictions.
As a result of leaning on His Lord for wisdom, Albert was a strong role model to his sons guiding & teaching them basic life lessons, morals, and character.
Additionally, he graduated with a degree in Indigenous Governance.
He loved Jesus & was learning his Indigenous culture & language. Faith, prayer, and smudging was a huge part of his life. Albert literally was a walking miracle surviving multiple violent altercations, severe burns to his legs, close calls with overdoses, and a recent head on vehicle collision.
He was a strong, caring, “tough love” man & Father. His family was his pride & joy in life. He loved his sons, wife & family in Peguis First Nation dearly.
Albert enjoyed pool, golfing, fishing, bowling, card games, bingo, and Yahtzee. He was a very blessed man competitive in his hobbies and won several tournaments. He won draws, bingo, 50/50, and lotto tickets frequently.
The family expresses gratitude to Staff at Ethical Death Care, HSC Staff at MICU 4th floor, Peguis First Nations Leaders, Peguis Gaming Commission, Percy Moore Dialysis Unit Healthcare Centre Team.
A celebration of Albert’s life will be held 11:00 am. Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Braeside Evangelical Mennonite Church at 1011 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Please click here for the livestream. Refreshments to follow.
Ashes to be laid to rest with Albert’s Father by immediate family only in East Selkirk.
Family greatly appreciates donations in lieu of flowers to Diabetes Canada or The Kidney Foundation.

Deanna and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss...I have many fond memories that I will forever cherish...he loved his family dearly...especially his Grandbabies. Even though these past years have been challenging....he remained positive... may he rest in peace as he is welcomed into the Lord's Kingdom

I will remember Albert for being so kind to me and also my password is his number so if I forgot he was only a phone call away. He will be missed by us all.
