DANIELLE MELANIE RITCHOT-SOPKO

May 16, 1981 – June 28, 2024

Peacefully, Danielle passed away at home on June 28th, 2024, from complications arising from MS. She was 43. She was surrounded by all that comforted her, with her favourite TV show playing in the background (Chicago Fire).

Danielle was born on May long weekend in 1981 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Danielle entered this world weeks before her due date and sadly Danielle left this world way too soon, on Canada Day long weekend 2024.

Danielle is survived by her husband Andrew, her daughter Taylor Anderson (Nic), sister Katrina Ouellette (Kyle), her niece Callie, her nephews Xavier and Grayson, and her parents Nicole Ritchot and Jerry Sopko. Danielle is remembered by her aunts, uncles and cousins, her friends, colleagues and all those whose lives she touched.

Throughout her life, Danielle was vibrant, upbeat, smart, and a deep thinker who could light up a room as soon as she walked into it. Danielle always questioned everything and encouraged those around her to be the best version of themselves they could be.

As a child and young adult, Danielle loved spending time with family and friends. She loved her trampoline, swimming, and summer vacations at various lakes. Danielle hated bears, but loved camping and nature.

At the young age of 17, when Danielle was just a baby herself trying to find her place in this world, she found out that she was having a baby of her own. At that time, little did she know that baby would be the biggest accomplishment and joy of her life. Taylor Anderson is Danielle’s daughter, her pumpkin, and her strength. Danielle loved watching Taylor grow, learn and explore her world. Danielle was always by Taylors side through all the highs and lows of growing up. Danielle was not just Taylor’s Mama, but her best friend and biggest supporter.

Danielle enjoyed her time at the University of Winnipeg, where she made lifelong connections while earning a 4-year BA in Human Geography and History and a certificate in Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, Analyses, Planning and Management. Danielle was a brilliant mind with a thirst for knowledge always influencing those around her. Throughout her life, Danielle never stopped educating herself, availing herself of training opportunities offered and obtaining a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Certificate

Danielle was proud of the career she built as a New Media/ E-Communications Officer with the Government of Canada and subsequently as the Project Manager, Online Services with Entrepreneurship Manitoba. Danielle held this latter position from March 2014 until she was no longer able to physically continue to work due to the impact of MS.

In 2014 Danielle swiped right on the love of her life, Andrew. The love Danielle and Andrew shared was once in a lifetime.

Danielle was a proud introvert and a deep thinker. She loved reading, watching her many shows and spending time by herself. Danielle also had many passions that continuously broke her out of her shell. Whether that be her early morning workouts at 9round, her at home insanity workouts with her favorite trainer, Shaun T, or working up a sweat while drinking beer with her baseball team the “Your Big Fat Ugly Mamas”. Danielle also loved music of every genre, from Bob Dylan, Judy Small, Blind Melon, Royal Wood, Frank Turner, Pearl Jam, Eminem, Nirvana, the Gaslight Anthem, and so much more. Danielle loved live music, attending concerts, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Jazz fest, etc.

In the years after her MS diagnosis in 2018, Danielle dove deep into understanding her future with MS while advocating for others. Danielle, with Andrew by her side and the support of family and friends, battled MS as long as she could, never wavering no matter how difficult it got. Danielle’s radiant smile and continued optimism showed everyone she was happy and resilient in the face of it all.

The family would like to thank Danielle’s homecare workers, Analyn, Camille, and Kamil, who helped provide Danielle with daily care and companionship.

In accordance with Danielle’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

The family will be holding a celebration of life for Danielle at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Centro Caboto Center, 1055 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg, Mb. The family invites all who had the honour of knowing Danielle to attend.

Danielle’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Danielle was a lovely person who I had the pleasure of meeting due to our shared diagnosis with MS. While we never actually met in person, our group video chats through 2020 and beyond were a true gift and I considered her a good friend. Danielle was dealt the worst hand with this awful disease which was so unfair. Sending my deepest condolences to all her family - wish the distance wasn't so far and that I could attend today. 💔

I will be forever grateful to have met Danielle though a mutual friend. She was so easy to talk to and we had excellent conversation and many shared laughs in far too short of a friendship. We met prior to either one of us being diagnosed with MS. However, it was Danielle's journey to her diagnosis that brought us closer. Danielle & Andy were the kindest, most down-to-earth, unconditionally in love, goofy, and easy to be around couple. I can hear her laugh and her voice when I look at her smile in pictures and am so deeply heartbroken that her rapid fight with MS was such a rare one and so very undeserving. I will cherish the handful of good memories that we shared, my dear, and will miss our conversations sharing new found MS knowledge, views on life, and joking about our symptoms. This is not how your path with MS was supposed to go. 💔 You're forever in my heart.

Such a charming and beautiful girl, who left this world much too soon. Her smile warmed every perons heart who had the privilege of seeing it. Danielle was a truly brave and courageous fighter, she fought a very hard battle, but sady it was way too strong for her. Andy, the tremendous love you two had for each other is shown in this loving tribute. My deepest condolence to you and Danielle's family. Love always,

Danielle and her sister, when they were kids, spent many nights around my kitchen table talking about so many subjects. We had so much fun doing lots of neat things. Sleepovers with them were one of my favourite things! Danielle was a very bright light in my life - she brought much joy to me! I take comfort in knowing that in her last years she was so deeply cherished by a partner who clearly adored her. She so deserved this! I will never forget you Danielle - I will always love you. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends and those who loved her. This is a tremendous loss of a wondeful human being.

I remember the day Danielle was born, we were supposed to go camping, but meeting my new niece was far more important to me. We lost touch in later years but reconnected thru fb, RIP Danielle. ❤️

I'm an "internet friend" of Andrew's of about 20 years. I'm sad that I never got to know Danielle, but I followed every asp of their love story. He articulated it so well - and so often - that her passing has affected me as if she had been my frien, too. May all of the brightness and goodness she's brought to the world live on in all who loved her.

I was lucky enough to witness the love Danielle & Andrew shared for each other. I have never witnessed two people more meant for each other. From the earliest first dates, to the proposal to the wedding, they were always so sweet to each other. I'm heartbroken for Andrew & her family, she was such a wonderful, resilient person.

You were always so kind and happy. I have, and will, continue to think of you and Andy everytime our living room piano is played. Once more, thank you so much for gifting us your piano.

Until we cross paths again.

Rest in piece.

Your smile always lit up the room. I enjoyed so many laughs with you. You and Andy together were two peas in a pod. Watching you love and take care of eachother was so so special. Forever in our hearts and smiling down on us you'll be ❤️

This tribute was so beautifully written. I didn't know Danielle personal only through Andrew. But reading this tribute to honor and celebrate her was amazing. I know if I knew her I would've loved her like all the people in her life. My deepest condolences to all the family and friends!! May Danielle Rest In Paradise ❤️
