KATHRYN “KATHY” MARIE ROSS
(née YUEL)
January 27, 1954 – April 1, 2025
With broken hearts we announce the passing of our dear sister Kathryn Marie Ross on April 1, 2025. Kathy was predeceased by her mother, Marlene Yuel; husband Allan Ross; son Aaron Ross; and twin brother Ken Yuel. She leaves to mourn her father, George Yuel; brothers, Doug (Kelly), Gary, Duane, Dale (Barb); sister Wanda (Phil); and sister in law Joyce Yuel; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kathy entered this world on Jan 27, 1954, weighing only 3lbs 14ounces, a twin to her much larger but 30 minutes younger brother Ken. Home for the next 17 years was on the family farms in Saskatchewan and Neepawa. She was the oldest child of 7 and loved caring for her little brothers and sister. She excelled at her piano and saxophone lessons and enjoyed singing in the school and church choirs. Her chosen activity as a youth was figure skating and she continued skating until late in her life.
At 17 yrs old the family left the rural life behind and moved to the big city of Winnipeg settling in Norwood. As Kathy was a natural born shopper she loved life in the city. It was in Winnipeg that she met and married Allan Ross. They remained in Winnipeg until Allan’s work took them to Killarney. It was in Killarney that they welcomed their son Aaron in 1985. In 1989 Kathy, Allan and Aaron left Killarney for Vancouver where Kathy remained until 2024.
Kathy had many hobbies and excelled at all of them. She loved baking and treated her family and friends often to her delicious homemade cookies, cheesecakes and butter tarts. Kathy was also a talented sewer and knitter. She sewed exquisite fur trimmed winter parkas and knit darling winter sweaters and toques for her son and her nephews. As she gained more nieces and nephews, it wasn’t unusual to receive a large bundle of beautiful clothing she had sewn for them. Kathy was so generous with her talents.
In Vancouver Kathy made many friends and remained close to these people for the 35 years she lived there. She began work later in life at the Burnaby Costco and her group of friends grew.
Due to illness and many personal losses the last 4 years of Kathy’s time in Vancouver were very difficult. Our family will forever be grateful to her dear friends who were there to support and care for Kathy during the times when we couldn’t be with her. A special thank you to Shaun, Clause, Venecia, Sandy, Fanny, Jim, Marshall, Colleen and so many more of her wonderful friends in Vancouver.
A private family gathering and internment will be held at a later date.
If friends desire donations in Kathy’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
Rest in Peace dear Kathy.
We love you.
Kathy’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

As a single mom of three, there was no way I could have went back to work if Kathy hadn't of agreed t look after my 2 youngest aged 4 and 3. They absolutely loved Kathy as she taught so many useful skills like how to microwave french fries and roll her cigarettes! 🤣 That was over 30 years ago and we immediately became her 2nd family. I was her Asian sister and we shared many holiday gatherings, birthdays, outings, laughter and tears together. Kathy was talented, funny, kind and over the top generous! I will miss her terribly!♥️ Rest in peace Kathy, I love you!

I met Kathy when we came from Venezuela 20 years ago. She was my first friend in Canada. We were together for a lifetime, which I am grateful. I wanted to remember her kindness, open mind and her appreciation for life. I love you Kathy. You always will be with me.

I only met Kathy a few times since she lived in Vancouver but she made me a wonderful themed kitchen apron with a firefighter theme as a house warming gift. I had recently began my career as a Winnipeg firefighter. Very thoughtful of her.

My heart goes out to the Yuel family. It has been a solemn time first Losing Ken and then Kathy so soon afterward. Kathy was a sweet soul and I always remember the jacket she made for my son when he was little . It meant a lot to me and I still have it to this day!!
