SANDRA “SANDY” LEE ROSSMAN

October 9, 1959 – October 1, 2024

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Sandy on October 1st at the age of 64.

Sandy was born October 9, 1959 at St. Boniface Hospital. She grew up in St. Vital where she went to St. George Elementary, Norberry Junior High, and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate. Sandy was a wonderful, fun-loving person who enjoyed and played a variety of sports. She excelled at many of the sports she played and was awarded Female Athlete of the Year in junior high. Sandy played baseball and volleyball for years after graduating high school, although volleyball was her favorite sport even though she had an incredible arm playing right field. Sandy had many friends who she stayed in touch with over the years.

Sandy worked in the financial field for several years at various institutions occupying a variety of positions. She moved into health care where she worked for Dr. Lonny Ross for a number of years up until his retirement. In Sandy’s recent position, she worked for the U of M Ophthalmology Department at the Misericordia Hospital up until her untimely passing.

The loves of Sandy’s life were her daughter Macee, and her two grandsons, Kaden and Owen. Though they were there for only part of her life, they were lucky to have loved her for all of theirs.

Sandy was predeceased by her father Ron.

Sandy leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Macee (Stefan); her two grandsons, Kaden and Owen; mother Irene; sister Christine; brother Curtis (Dawn); nephews, Kristopher, Cole, and Jarod; and nieces, Jasmine, Jade, and Kiley; along with numerous friends and family.

A special thank you to the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedics Service and the Emergency staff at The St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and compassion.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 18th at the Norwood Hotel located at 112 Marion St, Winnipeg. Doors will open at 12:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choosing.

Sandy’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

She worked very hard as one of our ophthalmology department's program administrators .She was looking forward to her retirement and spending more time with her grandchildren. So sad that she didn't live to enjoy that well deserved chapter of her life. Thanks Sandy for your help- we miss you!

My sincere condolences to Sandy's family and friends. I had the pleasure of working with her in the Ophthalmology Department. Always with a smile, no matter the stress of the day, and organized beyond measure so we could always accomplish our goals.

My condolences to the entire family. So very sad to hear about Sandy's sudden passing. Sandy was always a great person and liked by everyone. We played sports together and hung out alot during our high school years.

Hadn't seen her in many years and it was great to catch up with her at the Glenlawn 75th reunion.

Rest in Peace Sandy.

I am so sorry to hear of Sandy's passing. We went to school together from Grade 1 to Grade 12. When Macee was in high school, Sandy and I would ride the bus together on occasion and catch up on life. We shared names and our birthday month. Sandy was always so friendly and outgoing. My sincere apologies to her family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sandy at HSC when she began working with Dr. Ross. We worked together until my retirement in 2019. She was always up to the challenge and when we raised money for Aboutface she was there to jump out of that plane! Outside of work Sandy traveled with our family group to the Domincian in 2016 and was the life if the party showing off her dance skills. Today would have been her 65th birthday....she had plans for the future. Gone too soon my friend I will miss you.

I was so saddened to hear of Sandie's passing. We were friends in high school and re-connected at the Glenlawn 75th High School Reunion in June. She was a lovely human being and will be missed.

During my time in the care of Dr. Ross, I often found myself reflecting on the moments of kindness that made a significant impact on my experience. One memory that stands out is the small gestures that might have gone unnoticed by others, like the warm smile she greeted me with each time I entered the office, or the way she remembered details about my life, asking about my hobbies and interests. After being a patient throughout the years Sandy would share stories of how proud she was to be a mother and grandmother. These moments of kindness will always be appreciated.

Sandy was my part of my work family at HSC, part of the original crew in plastic surgery. We spent 14 years laughing, debating, agreeing to disagree, going to the gym, sushi dates, sharing advice, stories of our kids, drinks and dancing.

Sending my condolences to all her family during this heartbreaking time.

My gosh, Sand! you will be missed. 💔

My deepest condolences to Sandy's family on her sudden passing. Sandy was a great coworker and friend during my time at HSC and part of an amazing team that I will forever cherish. Although it's been awhile since we last worked together, we have remained friends. I will miss the exchange of occasional greetings and annual birthday wishes, as much as I have missed our working together, her camaraderie, friendship and for being such a wonderful, strong and supportive team member. Rest In Peace Sandy.

Sandy was both a powerhouse of a person, and a kindhearted woman. I enjoyed getting to know her when our families blended, especially those long and random talks in Irene's kitchen about anything from tattoos to healthcare. She was a beautiful soul!

Sandy was there for me at a time when not a lot of adults could be. She showed up for me in one of the most human moments that I'll never forget, and I take Sandy's lesson of empathy with me with everyone I encounter who needs someone safe in a dark time.

My sincerest condolence and deep gratitude to Sandy's family ❤️ I'm keeping you and Sandy in my heart.
