PAULINE SUSAN ROWE

(NÉE SANDS)

August 10, 1941 - March 17, 2025

With sadness and appreciation for a wonderful life, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Pauline on March 17, 2025. Pauline was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba, to Richmond (Clayton) and Annie (Peggy) Sands.

Predeceased by her parents, her husband Allan and sister Anne Kenny, she is survived by her children, Grant Rowe (Dawn Rowntree) and Heather Rowe-Fahlman (Darryl Fahlman); grandchildren, Aidan Fahlman (Margot Henry), Liam Fahlman, and Morgan Fahlman all of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Norval Kenny of Moncton, NB,; cousin Margaret (Roger) Dube of Winnipeg, cousin David (Eva) Stewart of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; several cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Family was paramount to Pauline. She was a wonderful grandmother - affectionately known as Nannie. Ever attentive and always willing to help, she will forever hold a special place in her grandchildren’s hearts. She loved The Maritimes and spent many summers there visiting with her sister and her family.

Pauline was an avid reader, excelling in school and art. After graduating from Pine Falls High School in 1959, she moved to Winnipeg and became a legal secretary with Sokolov, Wolinsky & Co. It was during this time she met Allan. They were engaged a few months later and married in Pine Falls on August 19, 1961. They settled in Charleswood and raised their children. Pauline was employed at Pembina Trails School Division as a school secretary. She worked at Beaumont and Beaverlodge Schools. During her retirement, she volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba. She worked tirelessly to bring about government-imposed regulations on staffing minimums in personal care homes.

Pauline was very proud of her Scottish and Irish heritage and embraced all things Gaelic. She loved the sound of bagpipes, St. Patrick’s Day and the simple beauty of a shamrock.

Cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place in the summer.

Pauline's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

The family wishes to express our appreciation for the staff at Tuxedo Villa. Each of you made a positive difference in Pauline’s final years.

May the road rise to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

The rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Our condolences to Heather and Grant and their families, on the loss of their wonderful mother/grandmother, Pauline. Our families live dvery close to one another when we were quite young. We had some great memories from these young years. We also attended the same school from kindergarten to grade 12. No matter what Pauline attempted, she always did it well and achieved top grades. She will be missed very much.

So sorry to read of Pauline's passing. She was a good cousin! We hard so many good times together when the Sands and the Stewarts all were all so close when we all lived in or near Pine Falls!

I was so lucky to have my Sands uncles, aunts and cousins all living close by.

I am so sorry to read this. Not only was your wonderful mother a great next-door neighbour to us, but she was also a prolific letter writer to my mum when my parents moved to Vancouver. She kept that up for years, and when I flew my m,um back to Winnipeg for her last trip during the beginnings of my mum's Alzheimer years, we went straight to Pepperloaf from the airport, and Pauline and Betty picked up their conversation as if the move to Vancouver had never happened!

Pauline was a lovely lady, I spent many years at Beaumont School being greeted every morning by Pauline and Marilyn who also worked in the office. A bunch of the Beaumont ladies would meet yearly at the end of June and celebrate each other whether it be a retirement, birth of a grandchild, or marriage and often a loss of a loved one. Pauline stopped attending our dues a while ago but she was often mentioned in friendship. We will all miss her. Rest now Pauline, a life well lived.
