HELENA THIESSEN
(née Friesen)
1935 – 2025
Peacefully on March 31, 2025 at the age of 90, Helena Thiessen received her gift of Heaven, at Park Manor Care Home, with her children by her side.
Helena was predeceased by her husband Cornelius (Neil) Thiessen; her son Ronald Victor; her daughter Irene Peters, parents John and Anna Friesen, and two brothers Henry and John Friesen. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Son-in law Gerald, John (Suzanne), Marvin (Brenda), Randy (Bea), MaryAnne (Erle), Kelly (Michelle), Ron (Susan), Kevin (Shannon) and 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Peter and Cornelius Friesen, 3 sisters Anna Kornelson, Agatha Wolfe and Margaret Toews.
Helena was born in Chihuahua, Mexico to John and Anna Friesen February 26, 1935. She met Cornelius Thiessen in a small village in Mexico and later married in 1953. They started their large family nine months later when eldest daughter Irene was born; also moving to Manitoba during that time.
Helena’s favourite season was summer and she absolutely loved Easter and Christmas. She had a sweet fascination with trains and enjoyed watching television episodes of The Waltons, Little House On The Prairie. Helena usually had Christian television on when family came to visit. She enjoyed watching her kids participate in many sports such as baseball, football and hockey. Helena and Neil were blessed with a large family. In addition to Helena’s immense love of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she had a special love of animals and “Muffin” was no exception. MaryAnne would bring her dog Muffin to visit Mom and that always made her day. Helena was an exceptional cook. She lived on her own until the age of 88, and she always ensured everyone who came to visit was well fed. She had a quick wit and enjoyed a good joke and laugh. Helena was adventurous and competitive. She absolutely loved family gatherings, playing games and was all in for her favourite game Dutch Blitz. Growing up the family went to church not once, but twice on Sundays; morning and evening. Living and growing her family in the Christian faith was of utmost importance to Helena. Helena also had exceptional style. She was always sharply dressed with a bit of bling, she loved all things that sparkled. We can only imagine how much she is loving the beauty and splendor of Heaven and being in the presence of Jesus, and her loved ones.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Park Manor Care Home for their compassionate and incomparable care of Mom. Their final act of kindness, the walk of honour as Mom left her home for the final time. Your empathy and care will be remembered and cherished forever. Thank you to all who have reached out with kindness and support during this time.
