RENE FLORENT JOSEPH VANDAL

November 21, 1944 - October 18, 2020

It is with profound sadness our family announces the passing of Rene Vandal, 75 years of age, at St. Boniface Hospital on October 18, 2020. Rene was predeceased by his first wife Valerie and his parents Albert and Florida Vandal.

Rene was born on November 21, 1944, in Ste. Anne, MB where he spent his childhood growing up. He moved to Winnipeg in 1962 and married Valerie in 1967. Together they had three children. In the early years, much time and effort were dedicated to fundraising for St. Amant to ensure his daughter had a safe place to live close to home. As the kids grew older, Rene found time to coach his son's sports teams as well as take care of Lynne’s needs.

Rene’s career was spent mostly self-employed in the construction sector. Everything was possible according to Rene. Through his work and private life, he touched the lives of many people. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and his strong commitment to work.

After Valerie’s passing, Rene met Joni and they got married in 2009. They lived happily together until his passing.  The last few years were difficult for Rene as his health was slowly declining.

Rene leaves to mourn his daughter Lynne, son Mark (Alana) grandchildren Brenna and Danica, and son Todd (Brooke) grandchildren Kailynne and Mason. His second wife Joni (her daughter Sandy, grandchildren, Kyle, Josh, and Kassie). He also leaves to mourn his sisters Claudette Vermette (Luc), Cecile Anderson (Pat), and brother’s Roger (Marie), Paul (Pat), Denis (Liliane), Daniel (Karen) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their incredible care of Rene. They would also like to thank his brother Roger for his unwavering support over the last couple of months.

There will be no funeral due to Covid restrictions. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
