Ian West
IAN JAMES WEST
October 31, 1969 – December 5, 2021
In the early Sunday morning Ian pulled into the truck stop in the sky and delivered his last load at 2:35 am. Surrounded by his family Ian passed away.
Ian leaves behind his soulmate and beautiful wife Sharon, two beautiful daughters Rose and Sarah, brother Glenn and sister -in -law Darlene, much loved Aunt Pat, cousin Geoff and Jackie along with many relatives and friends.
Ian wore many hats, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Many times, Ian would stop on the road to assist stranded motorist to check on their well being and to see if they needed help as he never liked to leave anyone behind either on the road or in the bush.
It was nothing for Ian to crawl under a vehicle in the middle of pouring rain to change someone’s breaks.
Ian loved his beautiful family and amazing friends. He enjoyed life especially stopping at a burger place to have a cheeseburger, fries & gravy; if the gravy was good, he would put the gravy on the bun and a cold glass of Pepsi in hand. He finished off with his smoke as his dessert. He also had a favorite Chicken Delight where the chicken thighs had to be fresh and right out of the fryer.
Ian worked hard all his life but played harder. He enjoyed playing hockey at a young age, camping and just being around family and friends.
Those that knew Ian, learned two things one nothing is more important than family and if he didn’t agree with something he would tell you straight. His words of wisdom struck a chord in many people’s hearts.
Ian began his truck driving career 25 years ago; mostly long hauls and his most loved passion was winter roads. In all of Ian’s travels he made friends everywhere he went, his most memorable trips were to Alaska with his daughter Sarah and to Toronto with his daughter Rose.
Ian would always talk about his love for his family especially his love for his wife Sharon. Even though Ian would be on the road he always phoned his family to check in on them.
Ian will be remembered by everyone he met, worked with and his shared experience and mechanical MacGyvering with Duck Tape always close by.
Ian is missed immensely by his family and friends. As per Ian’s wishes there will be no service as a Celebration of Life will be planned for next summer.
In remembrance of Ian, raise a glass of Pepsi, have a cheeseburger, fries and gravy.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at HSC on MICU for the extra care and comfort they provided Ian. Cousin Brenda for her love and support, and to Auntie Tree and family for taking care of us.
Ian was learning to play Blue Eyes Cryin’ In the Rain on guitar, so to everyone Love is like a dying ember, only memories remain.
