ROBERT “BOB” LLOYD WILSON

December 18, 1947 – October 19, 2024

In the early hours of October 19th, 2024 Robert “Bob” Lloyd Wilson; husband, father, brother, uncle and good friend to many, passed away after a lengthy struggle with cancer.

He is now reunited with his father John William; mother Willo Viola (Dann); brother Allen Robert (Florence); and other members of the family of who passed before him. He will be remembered by his wife Lynne (Schlamb); sons, Laurie (Linda Welsh, step- grandson Zach Welsh - Parisien) and Todd (Grand-son Aaron Jacob Wayne). He will also be remembered by his brothers, Bill (Bev), Tom (Karen), Ron; and sister Debbie Morrison ([Wilson] [Craige -predeceased]); along with his many nieces, nephews, and cousins that will cherish the time they spent with him.

Bob was born in Matsqui, BC in December of 1947, and then a short time later, the family moved to a homestead near Ogilvie, MB. They then moved to Gladstone in late 1968. In 1970, in his early twenties, he moved to Winnipeg in a leap of faith to be with Lynne and ultimately got married in May 1971.

Up to the time of his early retirement, due to the onset of his cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatments, he pulled wrenches in multiple automotive shops starting at the Gladstone garage in the mid to late 60's. After moving to Winnipeg, he did a stint at Northwest Motors and then moved onto Firestone for many years. After which, he worked for an independent shop for two years and then finished his professional mechanical career at Minute Muffler for the last 15+ years. He started and continued to do independent work at home for family and friends for many years before and after retirement. While throughout that time, he worked on his own projects, when time allowed. This included a '82 Mercury Zephyr and '64 Ford Galaxie of which he was never able to finish to due to declining health.

He enjoyed his Sunday afternoon regiment of watching NASCAR, the Sunday night family suppers and chit-chat, and cutting the 3 acres of grass out at Laurie's. He would also, without hesitation, "baby-sit" his "grand-fur babies" while Laurie was away for work.

He will be deeply missed by all of us and all that have crossed paths with him over the years.

A gather in honour of Bob's life will take place at  1pm on Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Gladstone Cemetery in Gladstone, Manitoba. Lunch will follow at 2pm at the Gladstone Leigon.

Bob’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

It was truly an honor to have Bob as part of my life. We met in the mid 1980's through Norm Dumontier, when I was looking for a reputable auto mechanic. We instantly became friends and for many years I referred a countless amount of friends, family and acquaintances to utilize Bob's service.
Bob was a walking encyclopedia of automotive knowledge and reference. We shared thousands of technical conversations and loads of laughter over 40 years.

One month ago, I was able to talk with Bob and have our last tech talk together about the Lincoln Mk VIII and it's relation to 1997 and newer Mustangs.

I am deeply saddened to have this chapter with Bob in my life come to a close. I will miss, but never forget the laughter, conversations, good sound advice and the welcoming sound of his voice.

God speed my friend. May you rest in peace.

I have many fond memories of Uncle Bob, most of him with a smile and a laugh. He was always somebody you could count on to help -- especially when it came to our cars. :-)
